Air & Water Balancing

HEA provides TAB services for our clients on numerous systems. The systems are only as good as the devices that support them. HEA's testing program is a detailed thorough process. Upon the completion of the test, if a minor calibration is needed HEA staff will perform the adjusting on the spot.

The distribution of the energy that is being produced needs to be precisely balanced in accordance to design and occupancy needs.

The Michigan office of HEA is certified by the National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) to perform air & water testing, adjusting and balancing services in accordance with NEBB Procedural Standards.

Steam Trap Surveys

Start your energy conservation program with a low cost steam trap survey, where a typical return on investment is 60 - 75 days. Steam traps should be inspected annually to prevent the loss of thousands of dollars due to faulty or inoperable traps. The average failure rate in most facilities is between 10-12% per year when on a yearly steam trap maintenance plan. More info here!

Equipment Testing

  • Steam trap
  • Air survey
  • Performance testing
    • Air handlers
    • Boilers
    • Chillers
    • Pumps

HEA evaluates the performance of equipment associated with mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems and compares to the building usage requirements and design parameters. Using state-of-the-art calibrated instruments, testing is conducted on equipment such as boilers, air handlers, chillers, generators, steam traps, cooling towers and pumps. A report is then provided that details recommendations for proper equipment operation and maintenance. Our findings often reduce energy usage, enhance building performance, bring the building up to code, and minimize complaints associated with ventilation (temperature, humidity, noise and airflow).

Construction Management

HEA provides the full range of project and construction management services to meet the growing demand from our clients for efficient and effective capital project delivery. Our primary task is to represent the interest of the owner throughout the project, and to manage the achievement of the project's schedule, quality and budgetary goals. We tailor the scope for each management assignment specifically for our clients and their project needs from pre-bid through post-construction.

Indoor Air Quality Testing

Indoor Air Quality refers to the integrity of the environment inside buildings based on pollutant concentrations that can affect the health, comfort, and performance of occupants. We act as a part of your design team to evaluate materials, chemicals, coatings, sealants, adhesives, noise and constructions/renovation impacts. HEA has also performed, developed, or implemented the following for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) initiative:

  • IEQ Credit 3.1 – Construction IAQ Management Plan (During Construction)
  • IEQ Credit 3.2 – Construction IAQ Management Plan (Before Occupancy)

Blower Door Testing

HEA provides blower door testing using Minneapolis Blower Door fan testing equipment. Our team will also identify leakage pathways and prepare a comprehensive analysis of our findings within a final report to help satisfy the following LEED credits:

  • IEQ Prerequisite 2 – Environmental Tobacco Smoke Control (Room Integrity Testing utilizing a Blower Door Fan)
  • IEQ Credit 3.2 – Construction IAQ Management Plan (Before Occupancy)
