Tom Conn

Q/A with Tom Conn, Project Engineer
Employee of the Month: November 2017

If you could vacation anywhere on the planet, where would you go?
Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. The best mountain biking in the world!

What is something about you that would surprise people?
How much I absolutely abhor mayonnaise and hard-boiled eggs. Most people don’t have the capacity to loathe anything as much as I loathe either of these.

Describe your perfect Saturday?
Starting the day super early, riding my mountain bike on the trails at Graham Hills in Pleasantville, New York before anyone else. Then heading back to the city, completely avoiding traffic while doing so, in time to grab a massive hero from Alleva dairy in Little Italy for lunch (exactly what I’m craving right now). Then popping back into Brooklyn to pick up my lovely girlfriend Michelle and head out on a nice long bike ride around Brooklyn, ending up at one of our favorite outdoor spots (we have a few) for dinner and drinks. Then, we’ll head home for a planned viewing of The Big Lebowski, with a White Russian on the side, and Michelle won’t roll her eyes at all. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that on my perfect Saturday, my timesheet was totally done the day before, for sure.

What is something you would like to learn to do?
I’d like to learn to whistle really loudly, whether or not it’s the method that involves putting your fingers in your mouth. With the advent of Uber/Lyft/etc. making it much less difficult/necessary to hail a cab, it’s a dying art that lots of New Yorkers used to be really good at.

What do you like best about working at HEA?
It’s definitely the constant worry of not being able to find a bathroom key when it’s needed the most, which keeps me on my toes. KIDDING – it’s the people. I love how close-knit HEA is, how easy everyone is to talk to and how everyone consults each other when they are stuck on something. It’s also great that a few of our engineers are VERY familiar with Big Lebowski lines.
